I was asked by a friend if I could upgrade the HDD on their mac mini. Even though I have never pulled one of these apart I thought I would help him out.

Now in the process of pulling it apart I have snapped a small black cable. This was holding together the top frame of the HDD and optical drive to the the motherboard below. Does anyone what this cable does?

It looks like a small black jumper at the end, with two cable coming out of it, only one of the cables is broken. I will get pictures if needs be.

Is it possible to buy new parts and fix it myself, or would I have to take it to a Mac Centre?

What generation Mini is this? What are the factory specs? How many USB ports on the back? 2, 4 or 5?

Reason I ask is there are around 3 releases and all are different in that way.
