I came accross a log file (private/var/log/asl) that was 65GB. I deleted the file by dragging into trash, updated my computer but the file keeps coming back and is growing quite quickly. Is there a way to permanently delete it? Or how can I find out why it is growing so quickly?

Quickly googled this for you ....
Apple - Support - Discussions - private/var log eating up hard drive ... Hope it helps you find the process that is responsible for writing to the logs. Cheers ...
