Non compatible RAM = beep at startup?

I ordered myself a stick of RAM, 1GB, but when I fitted it last night and tried to startup the Mini just beeped at me - a low, loud burp, and refused to proceed.

I've popped the old RAM (256MB, 400Mhz) back in and all's OK.

Is this non-compatible RAM? I think it was PC2700 333Mhz 184 pin.

Thanks in advance, Lee

I would try putting the 1gb stick in one more time, it is possible that it just didnt' quite sit right the first time you did it. The ram could just be bad, might want to think about sending it back.

Sounds like incompatable ram alright. Don't know what the specs are on the mini, but if the original ram is pc3200 400 mhz then i would keep the same rating. See if you can trade that 2700 back for some 3200.

Mac Pro Intel 2.66 - 4 Gigs Ram - 10.6.1 - 30" Apple Monitor
iMac 24" 2 gigs ram - MacBook Pro

It only runs at 2700 speeds though so that shouldn't be the problem.

So I'm a noob on mac memory too ----- if I go to the crucial web site and use their mem selector I get :

Crucial Part Number: CT431640
1GB
DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64

So do I just use these specs in choosing a RAM stick -- they are selling theirs for $148 ---- I see a lot of sticks for less than $100

You can go by those specs, if you want though you can go with a faster ram like PC3200, it won't actually make you system any faster but sometimes it is cheaper/easier to find, plus if by chance you are like me and planning to upgrade to an iMac sometimes soon then you can just use that memory instead of buying new stuff.

My old 512mb stick was PC3200, 2.6v, CL3 and it worked just fine.
