Hi, could anyone help me , I have an I mac, which is approx 2yrs old, it has started to crash as if power has gone, just switches off, i think it feels like something gets hot and causes it to stop. If you leave the power on i.e. plugged in the switch is on, on the socket, it wont restart, but if you switch the socket off, inotherwords no power going to the unit , you can turn it back on after 5 mins, but it only lasts for a few mins before switching off again.
I would appreciate any help.

Regards Glyn

I don't know if this helps at all, but I had a similar shut down problem and my keyboard was causing the issue. Once I switched to an authentic apple keyboard, I never had the problem again.

Installed anything recently, third party RAM perhaps? Checked for clogged vents? Unplug everything and try to boot it. If that works, add the keyboard and go to Safe Mode and you can check logs from there.

Hold down Shift while booting (will take considerably longer) and it'll say Safe Boot to let you know it worked. When all is booted up, go to Applications/Utilities/Console and find your system log. At the bottom of the last day it crashed should tell you the last thing that happened. You can copy and paste what the log said here.

hariol,

I had a similar situation with my MB, the difference being that my laptop was shutting itself off during boot. I thought the problem was hardware related until I booted from my external HD. The issue was that my main HD was corrupted. I had to reformat it and restore my backup. After that I run diagnostic tools and found no more errors.
