If it is an Hitachi/LG drive, sign it is on the way out. Just keep closing it using the keyboard key, last top right, and if it fails replace with a Pioneer 20X DL superdrive. They are as cheap as chips and easy to install in your G5.

It is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D and it is working really well.
But when I connect the MAC the drive opens the door. When I turn off the MAC the drive closes (it closes too when I click using the keyboard key).
This "problem" started 2 weeks ago!
thanks

Try these suggestions courtesy of Macintouch Forums:-

CD Drawer Opening At Startup

Dave Howe
Re: the G5 CD drawer opening at startup: My guess is that that G5 has it's startup preference set to a System on a CD...go to System preferences/Startup Disk and switch it to your hard drive.

Ron Aldrich
It sounds to me like the eject button on the front of the DVD drive is stuck, or shorted. When a disc is inserted, the Mac locks it into the drive, but when the computer reboots, it resets the drive, which then checks to see if the button is pressed, and ejects the tray.

Michael Wroobel
Are you using a USB to PS/2 adapter on the machine? If you unplug your keyboard and mouse does the problem go away?

David Charlap
Most Macs open the tray on bootup if you hold down a mouse button during the boot sequence.

This happened to me when my Mac was brand new and I had not yet removed the plastic adhesive film from the mouse. It's also been known to happen if a USB hub is defective and the Mac thinks there's a mouse button held down at boot time.
