Before anyone should say what you need, we need to know which model iMac you have.

edit: If you're not sure of the model - give us the screen size and the processor speed in your machine.
I f you bought it new - approx date of purchase also.

You bought "Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter". You need: Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)

Only if this is the new model Imac.
Without knowing which iMac they have, this person could be in need of a mini-vga adapter with an iMac G4.

"Assumptions" can and will bite ya.

edit: Your iMac does indeed have a mini displayport. There has been a lot of issues getting this port to work going to VGA. Seems to be about 50/50 able to get it to work and those that can't. If you have another option on the monitor in question, I'd use it. If no, I would suggest buying only Apples mini-display port to VGA adapter and not from a 3rd party in this one case.

Do you think $19 is a good price for an S-Video adapter? So I can use S-Video with my MBP? I already have S-Video cables, and my TV also has and S-Video port.

I have an iMac PowerPC G4 and a new macbook. I have the Mini DVI to VGA for the macbook, but is there a way to hook up to my old iMac PowerPC G4, which also has an outlet that looks like an Mini DVI to VGA port from yesteryear? What DVI to VGA adapter do I need for the iMAC PowerPC G4?
Thanks.
