I have the 640gb hdd but want to upgrade to this hdd. Will it work.

Yes it will, but just to warn you, it's not the easiest thing to replace. I've swapped drives in my iMac twice now, it is entirely doable, just not easy.

It is not for the inexperienced nor the faint hearted let me tell you. Have a read of this first:-

How do you upgrade the hard drive in the Aluminum iMac models? What type of hard drive do they support? @ EveryMac.com

The drive you have chosen in 3GB transfer or SATA 11 and from memory your iMac is SATA. If you have troubles formatting the drive you may have to choke it back to SATA speed, 1.5GB, using jumpers.
