I have a 24" iMac and I have almost run out of disk space. I have another SATA 1.0 TB drive I want to install in place of my current drive. I installed the drive and booted to the OSX Disc 1 to install Leopard. I go through the beginning of the OS install and i get stuck when it asks which disk I want to install the OS. There is no disk showing to install the OS in. How do I get the new (unformatted) drive to show? Is there anything I have to do to mount the new drive?

Long time computer user and recent Apple Mac user. I started with a Mac Mini a few years ago, to see how I would like Apple. I found it fairly easy to use. I decided to get a real Mac so I got the 24 inch iMac. Great machine.

When you boot your iMac with the install DVD, instead of going to the OS X install option, select Utilities, Disk Utility from the top menu. You should now be able to see the unformatted disk. Highlight it and use Disk Utility to format your new disk as HFS +. At the same time, name the disk MacIntosh HD. After that's finished you can proceed with the OS X install.

Regards.

When I boot to the DVD, I get the language screen, and then I get the one that has several of the icons on it. Pushing them does not seem to do anything. If I push the continue button, on the bottom of the page, I get sent to the screen that wants to know where you want your system installed. There are no options that I have found. The screen with the icons does nothing when I push them. I will try it again, Thanks.
