I have the final generation of the 20 inch white plastic imac from about 4 years ago. I am having a problem with the imac waking from sleep. I don't recall this happening before I installed leopard, but the issue is becoming more and more common. When I come back to the computer and wake it from sleep, i hear the sound as if my drive starts to spin, but the display does not come on (and so obviously I can't tell if the computer actually wakes up). I have tried putting the display to sleep via control, shift, eject, and then hitting a key to turn it back on; this does nothing so I am assuming that the computer does not wake. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this and if anybody believes this is probably a hardware malfunction as opposed to one caused by introducing leopard to this somewhat dated imac. additionally, sometimes when I shut the computer down and immediately turn it back on, it does not go through the initial startup process where i have to enter my password to login, but rather the state in which the computer was before shutting down reappears, but in greyscale. There is a series of bars near the bottom of the screen that must "fill up", and then the color reappears. So essentially, when shutting down the computer when encountering the problem, I have to leave it turned off for about half a minute or so for the full reboot to occur. This in itself is a problem because I am using a wireless mouse, and it seems the computer must fully reboot in order for it to find my mouse. Again, this issue first occurred occasionally, but now I am finding it happening possibly more than half the time. This is why I am thinking it is probably a hardware malfunction.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

To update this problem, i have gone back to using my original chorded mighty mouse that came with this computer (i had been using a wireless mighty mouse), and the problem has ceased to exist. Apparently it is being caused by the wireless mouse.
