Mac Pro - monitor for mac pro

Brand new to the Mac world and am looking for suggestions for monitors for the new Mac Pro workstation. No money in the budget for the Apple Cinema Display, so I'd appreciate any suggestions on what other people are using. Will be using this for video editing/fx and web design.

Dell do a nice range of displays with good colour quality.

I use a 3008WFP with my Mac Pro and find the definition and colour very nice, but they have smaller displays to suit other budgets.

This is where "window shopping" is recommended.

Just go to where monitors are sold and use your eyes. Choose a display that you like based on size, color rendition, budget, and so forth. Granted, a monitor does not always look the same when you get it home and hook it up. Most stores have a good return policy for monitors. Inquire first before you buy.

HP has a very nice IPS display, the LP2475W. It's around $600. IPS panels generally look much nicer than TN panels (the really cheap ones). Of course, TNs are still perfectly acceptable given their price. You could get a dual 22-24" setup with two TN displays for the price of a single IPS display of the same price. So it's really up to you.

This is probably not in the budget, but I have a LaCie 324, and I *love* it. I could not recommend it enough.

Very good advice from chscag, but from experience I'll put in a vote for Viewsonic Viewsonic » ViewSonic Visual Displays.

thanks for the advice folks - will have to step into some stores and get the true view on the models available in the area and compare specs.
