Process of elimination is the first step.
Q. Do the CDs work okay on any other (computer) player? a) If yes, then the problem is likely the cd/dvd player in the eMac. b) If no, then the problem is likely the disks. The player in your eMac is hard to get at to replace, so I recommend you buy an external cd/dvd player. I also recommend Pioneer brand as being the most suitable. Recco No 3 is a firewire enclosure with an Oxford chipset. A bit more expensive, but highly reliable with the MacOS. If your disks need cleaning, there are several methods of doing that. I use a soft cloth or paper tissue to wipe in straight sweeps from centre to edge (NOT round and round); or there are disk cleaning devices with which you use a commercial cleaner liquid. |
