Hi All

I have been having problems with my G4 Mac starting up. When you press the on button on the front the light comes on then fades to off. I thought it might be the battery so I changed it but still had the same problem. I found a small button the the mother board next to the battery I pressed it (with noting to loose) and a red light come on (on the motherboard) and the machine started up. So far it seems to be running OK since last night. Any ideas what the button does? I'm running OS 10.4

Many thanks

That's the CUDA button. Are you sure you changed for a new battery ? Turn out g4, unplug, press CUDA for 10 seconds then reboot.

Have a sticky at this:-

Resetting Cuda/PMU on Power Mac G5, Power Mac G4, Power Macintosh G3

The CUDA is actually the PMU switch. You changed the PRAM battery and resetting has taken the machine back to default so all should now be well. Check the date, time and region settings to make sure they are okay.
