Hi,

I seem to have a slight "issue" with my disc drive.
It read CD/DVDs fine, but I'm having a problem writing discs.

Having tried numerous disc at lower speeds, it gets to around track 10 and then from there on everything seems to fail. Tracks wont play back etc. The beginning on the CD is fine. Would you put this down to the disc drive itself, or the media being used?

If it turns out to be the media, is there a certain type of disc I should keep too?

Try a different brand of media first. Also you might want to purchase a cleaning kit for the drive. They're sold at most stores which sell computer accessories. If after using different media and cleaning the drive, it still fails to burn properly, the drive itself may be failing.

In order to burn a CD or DVD the optical light has to be able to put out enough power. A failing drive usually can not sustain enough optical power to write.

Many thanks for the reply.
Writing the discs at lower speeds appears to finish writing the disc. However on playback, half way through the disc the tracks fail. Resulting in either a stutter or skipping to the next track.
The tracks play fine in iTunes.

I'm going to purchase some Verbatim discs and give those a try. The ones I'm using i think are unbranded printable.

Still, you would think after spending around £1200 any media would work.

If anyone could recommend any other discs (cheaper) please let me know.
