iMac - Error Message: "can't find the the harddrive"

Hi I have a iMac G5 2008 with isight.and I need help when I turn it on takes about two mins to start and it says I can't find the the harddrive for it when I start it up.It get's ready to start up my reformatt cds and everything but cant find a Harddrive to put it on.I tryed to go to disk and go to repair and everything and it says error here is some pics also I need help please do I need a new harddrive is their a specific one I need can I use an external harddrive? is their specific ones I need please let me know

shows that then i click it and go to repair and i get erro the underlying tast reported failure to exit and 1 HFS Volume check
the it says volume needs repair

Please help first my Macbook got stolen now this is messed up =(

Mac Specs: iMac C2D Late 2007 20" with 10.8.3, Macbook Santa Rosa 4GB Ram OSX 10.8.3

This is an iMac G5? There is no 2008 iMac G5. Do you mean Intel Mac? How old is this machine?

We need to be sure what iMac it is first so we can better help you.
