I want my two power macs to talk to each other but what other fun things can you do with this cable. HD transfer, etc?

You can boot one of them in Target Disk Mode by holding down the "T" key after the startup sound. Its hard drive can then be accessed by the other Mac.

There is no system but GNU and Linux is one of its kernels.
