I just picked up a used imac g3 slotloading blueberry without a firewire port. It is password protected and when i tried to boot of a 9.0.4 software install disk or the software restore disk using and holding down the "c" key it just rolls right on by to the logon screen. What am i doing wrong in getting around the password and getting a fresh os copy going?
QUOTE Thanks

That suggests the optical drive isn't working, or at least not reading the disk. The CD may be drawn into the slot, but what happens once it gets in there?

Second question: "what OS is already on the iMac?"

Third possibility - try a different keyboard, maybe the C key isn't working. Check the OS 9 CD for any possible damage or marks near the centre too.

If you can boot from the 9.0.4 disc, wipe everything and do a clean install, including your own user name and password. The disc is a retail install disc I take it? if it is a system restore it will need to be the one that came with that machine originally and from memory, which is getting awful unreliable, my G3 350 came with OS 8.6 install CD.

System restore disc are very much model specific.
