I was told that the 1.42 is a better buy (?) and I have no problem with the 40GB HD. My DELL only had 10GB, so far I've only used 6GB.

Isn't it better to but the $120 CAN difference towards a (Kingston) RAM and/or Airport Extreme/Bluetooth upgrade?

Is there any other advantages the 1.42 has over the 1.25?

Thanks for not flaming PC (soon to be Mac) user.

blutooth is only needed if you think youll ge a wireless mouse or kb. ram is more important on osx than actual processor speed. you wont see a notcable difference between the 1.25 and 1.42 processing speeds if both machines had the same amount of ram. try buying ram from owc or crucial.com.

I agree mostly with Macman, there wouldn't be that much actual difference between the 1.2 and the 1.4. Throw in a gig of ram and it will work about the same. Actually the 1.2 works very well on just 512, i would figure the same for the 1.4.

Blue Tooth or Airport isn't needed for a wireless keyboard and mouse, but it would be needed if you want a wireless lan setup. Only real advantage the 1.4 has over 1.2 is an 80 gig hard drive instead of a 40, but that can be fixed with a nice firewire 300 gig external. I would also plan on getting a 5 or 7 port usb hub. Belkin makes a nice one.

Everyone has their favorite ram, mine is Corsair...

Well, that could be, however, i don't like the Apple keyboards or mice either so I use an ol wireless Mickysoft kb and wireless logitech that don't require any bluetooth.

Nice looking hub ya got, kinda wish i had gotten a firewire, but so far the ol usb 2 7 port i have has worked fine. As i have to replace stuff i will probably get firewire stuff.

I have a 1.42 with 512 and it is far more responsive than my 1Ghz G4 iMac, the 80G HD is a dog though, avoid it like the plague. I'm going to wait a few months for an 80Gb 7200 drive to become available and then I'll swap the 4200 one for a faster model.

My recommendation would to go for the 1.25 model with 512Mb and add a Lacie external Firewire 80Gb drive, the price would be similar but it would make for a far better DV editing setup.

How can you tell if it's the 5400rpm over the 4200rpm? Do you need to pop the top off? I want to check the rpm's for my mac mini.

I went to CompuSmart and Best Buy this morning. The only stores that carries Apple.

I was told that if I wanted to upgrade the 1.25 to (Kingston) 512MB RAM and add an Airport Extreme wireless LAN. I can only order through Apple(Store).ca??? They said they cannot open these Mini's up.

Thanks for the help.

Just go to Apple->About this Mac->More Info->Hardware->ATA and note the model number, then google on the model number. Simple innit.

Mine is the Toshiba MK8025GAS which is 80Gb 4200 RPM.

Thanks "Amen-Moses." I just checked mine, and it's the Toshiba MK8025GAS. I guess I'm not one of the lucky ones who got the 5400rpm

I think that only applies to the 40Gbyte model. I don't think there is 80Gb 5400 model cheap enough to make it into the Mini (the Powerbook uses a really expensive 100 Gb 5400 model).
