iMac - using my Mac for tv suggestions

i'm going to get the 22" 1gb 240gb HD model. The other day my tv decided to give up on me!  So now i'm thinking should i maybe get a mac mini and a flatscreen tv to use it on? Anyway does anybody use their mac to watch tv? and what do you use to do it? I live in the UK so obviously whatever i go with needs to be able to carry English TV. would be greatful for any advise!
