iMac - iMac G5 HD trouble

Got a iMac5 NOT intel proc, started having trouble recognizing HD, then I purchased more RAM Memory and a new HD, started to install and got to the point where is asking for destination volume, I did not formated HD prior install, should I do something before trying to install MCA OS?
