Mac Pro - bottom menu bar doesn't magnify

when i first brought my macbook home today, the bottom menu bar thing on the desktop would magnify whatever i had my mouse on, but after i did my updates, it stopped....is it a part of the update? if not, how do i get it to do it again?

Apple menu -> Dock -> Turn magnification on. Then preferences, adjust magnification.
