I've been using Macs since the late 80s. My dad gave me our old powermac 7200/120 when I was like 15. The first computer I bought though, I purchased with money from high school graduation. My Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz rev C. 2500 for the tower, 1500 for the 23 inch cinema display, 350 for the surround sound with optical cable.
My system specs when I got it (or close to when I got it, 10.3.7 was probably what it shipped with in June 2004).
In the early 1980's I built a Big Board II. It had a Zilog Z80 processor, 4 Mhz and 64k memory. I've now got the board framed and hanging as artwork.
It had a 8" floppy drive that held 1 MB on each floppy. I remember wondering how I'd ever fill up one of those disks!
I actually did some serious work on that machine using Turbo Pascal. I wrote a process simulation code that had gotten too slow for interpreted Basic and TP just came out for $34 and it was compiled and fast as blazes. AFAIK that code is still in use, I've got the latest version on my XP and Mac machines!

DR!!....it's a friggin' mess!!!
Here's my first one...Yes I was really late discovering computers
Noticed the Apple Mug??? It broke, and so did my heart Here it's called iMok (iMug)
Yuk, I even smoked in those days....

Nice Galilean thermometer! I've got one sitting in my window! You also don't have to tell me about the mess... that computer lived in horrible conditions, but was a trooper. Eventually I think I may use that case to build my own machine inside of it. Or just replace the logic board and have a dual 2 GHz G5 kicking around. I still can't imagine that thing as "slow" or "old" even though one day it will be. Already is old. The RAM was pretty slow... 400MHz in those days. My macbook here is rocking 1066MHz RAM with a 1066MHz frontside bus... that G5 had 1GHz frontside bus, so close, but no cigar.

I actually started out with a Vic-20. (this was just before the Commodore 64) Later came the Commodore 64 and stayed with that for a few years.
I thought I wanted to be a computer guru when I learned how to make my name scroll across the screen using BASIC!
I thought that was the berries when I learned to do that.
Best game ever played on that 64 was Lode Runner. Wasted MONTHS playing that one!
First computer in my house was a Wang 386 with a spectacular 9" monitor, windows 3.1
First computer that was "mine" was a hand me down Packard Bell 486/66DX don't remember the ram specs but had the external modem for AOL2.5 and it had a 850mb HD.
I took the 850mb HD added it to a Pentium 800mz deal with another 4gig hardrive. I kept windows 95 on the 850 and everything else on the 4gig. I remember thinking back then that I would never fill up 4 whole gigs of space. It was pre CD-R's... lol a few hard drive upgrades and windows releases went into that computer and eventually it gave up the magic smoke.
After that I bought a Compaq laptop that lasted me several years, it was my first experience with XP. Dont remember the specs on it, but it still had a 4x3 screen and came with hotswappable CD, CD-R, and A: drives...
Had a Toshiba laptop after that, bought some time around 2004, wiped windows off of it and installed Ubuntu. Played with several linux distro's on that before it had an unfortunate accident that involved a DeWalt 18v Drill. My fault for thinking inside a rack was safe from accidents, co-workers fault for leaving a drill on the top of a rack.
Went without a computer for a bit, used the wifes desktop when i needed to, it was kind of nice. Then i was loaned a Compaq to get me thru while out of town. Was strange to be back in windows after several years of linux.
Bough my macbook in february 2009 and hope to continue using it for at least the rest of my time in school.
