Network printer problems

Hi,

I'm to set a Macbook up to talk to an HP Photosmart 1315 that's attached to a 3Com OfficeConnect print server.

If I simply add the printer's IP address manually when I try to print nothing happens, the printer appears to be busy.

If I search for the printer by searching on the Network Neighborhood I find the print server but when I try to connect to it, no matter what I enter into the password dialogue box I get an error telling me that the connection failed because of an invalid password.

I've tried entering my user name for the print server, for the Windows network, the Macbook user account - nothing works. I've also tried using the name of the printer server as the username - both my assigned name and the manufacturer assigned name, still nothing.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

kwinsw

What are you using for a printer driver?

Try a post script driver if there's one available either through Gimp-Print or Ghost-Script or Foo-Matic.

I've tried using Generic PostScript and HP Photosmart 1100-Gimp drivers. If I manually install a TCP/IP port and tell MAC OS X to look for a printer using either driver I can now print out gibberish, but nothing useful.

So I guess you still need a 1315 driver.

Try this from HP.
