PC/Macbook compatible router

Hi,

One of my housemates is leaving and taking her router with her, a dlink 614+ I think. Me and my housemates are looking for a new one to replace it. Can anyone recommend a good router that's compatible with both pc laptops as well as macbooks? (I bought my macbook in June/July of '06). Also, the router would hopefully have a strong signal strength as I will be on a different floor from the router in a house with relatively thick walls and floors.

Thanks!

To the OP:

Take a look at the D-Link 655: D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router

I highly recommend D-Link as they are not only Mac friendly but easy to setup for both Mac and PCs. And... you can talk Mac talk with their tech support if need be.

I've seen the 655 as low as $99 in some stores, so shop around.

Regards.

Another vote for the DIR-655. I got one back when I was living at home and it worked great. The latest firmware has added support for Shareport, which allows you to plug in an external hard drive or printer into the router and share it across the network. It currently only supports Windows, but D-Link is working on a Mac version (there is a beta version available that D-Link will provide to you if you ask).

Thanks Guys.

Kash, when you say that the DIR-655 only has a Mac beta version, do you mean that it only has a beta version for Macs connecting to it to connect to use to the internet, or a beta version for network printer sharing?

Network sharing. Everything else is likewise for both PC and Mac. Take note what Kash said about the beta firmware that will allow the same network sharing of the printer and hard drive for your Mac.

Regards.
