What amazes me in all this, is that they are saying it is a beta update, as though somehow that explains why there are so many bugs. I mean what is so different from safari 3.0?
Surely it is possible to release an update of this that at the very least works as well as 3.0! 3.0 worked pretty good for me actually, and I fail to see what the point in this update was at all anyway!
Come on, it can't be that difficult to do!

4.0 was in beta for quite awhile and just recently the full release came out, this thread is quite old and I guess people are just continuing it to discuss their niggles with the production version.
Safari has always been a mixed bag for me. As many times as I've tried to use it, I always come back to Firefox (particularly 3.5 which has full gesture support amongst a number of add-ons that aren't available for Safari).
Although I like OS X, it has long irritated me that there are some flaws (which Apple apologists will point out are not flaws, as much as me not bending to Apple's will) which Apple just won't address. In particular, I can not figure out what Safari's logic is in opening new pages in a tab. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't, even with the setting turned on. I despite multiple concurrent browser windows.
Anyway, lots of people seem to like Safari and wholeheartedly believe that it's the fastest browser on earth. I just don't see it.
Until the day that Safari stops "painting" pages instead of just displaying them in one fell swoop, I'll stick to Firefox.
