Most computer manufacturers have stopped referring to their portables as "laptops", instead using the term "notebook". This is because they are not designed to be used on your lap. You should consider buying a lap desk if you intend to use it on your lap on a regular basis.

With that said, the most current version of the MacBook Pro doesn't run terribly warm and I don't find it to be uncomfortable on my lap.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
