If you are having consistent crashes then something is wrong. Start a thread to help your self figure it out. Give the versions of OS X, and your Final Cut Suite and any errors that maybe appearing. Also check the logs via the Console.app to see if any errors are registering there. Oh, and do a search hear, on Google, and the appropriate Apple forums first.
Of course there are many tools to make a DVD. You are using professional software. Each of those applications are full on pro apps, not cut-down-get-to-the-end apps like iMovie and iDVD.
