All of the above is correct - but one thing: you don't have to worry about Windows viruses infecting the rest of your Mac if they're on a virtual machine. You can install any antivirus/antimalware program you like. I use the free AVG, but there are numerous choices.

It's all much simpler than it appears once you actually get into it, believe me ...
