When I came back my MBP was asleep and would not wake up; so I had no other choice but to turn it off. When I tried to partition again it kept saying "can not partition this disk, verification failed", and when I looked at the available space left on my mac, it was 40G less than it should be. Coincidently, 40G was the amount of space I tried to partition.

Any ideas about how to restore the disk volume?
Have you tried running Verify/Repair Disk from Disk Utility?

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
