Both iMac and Macbook Pro are slow in Safari at the moment, and it was fine before I tried hooking them both up.

Doesnt make sense that one browser can behave so differently from another.

The iMac is currently wireless, however I have tried it with the Ethernet hardwired in, but Safari was still extremely slow.
