As I understand it there are only 2 RAM slots in the MBP. If this is the case and each slot has a 1GB stick in it, removing one of those sticks and replacing it with a single 2GB stick would give you a total of 3GB.
So - If all this is correct - I don't find this as an alternative way to get to 4GB from 2GB.
Please feel free to set me straight. I've not yet received my MBP... The Christmas tree is going up tonight!
