Another reason why I don't understand people are upset is that you don't HAVE to upgrade your firmware. If you don't want your phone to get locked again and/or not have access to third-party apps, then stick with 1.02.

If someone is smart enough to install third-party apps on their iPhone, then that person should be smart enough to read whether a new update will allow them to use those apps before actually updating. It's their own fault for updating and then having a shiny paperweight sitting on their desk...
