When I first looked at the MBP I thought the IR reciever was a headphone jack. Guess its more logical to put it on the side with the rest of the inputs.
They sure do hide alot of things inside the stereo speakers... ambient light sensors, sound sensors/microphones, and speakers 
Once you go Mac you'll never go back.
