Not when it comes to editting video. it is better to have your video in a separate drive when every possible.

Get the fastest external drive yu can afford. A 7200rpm drive would be best. Not knowing how much video work you will do in the future or how many project you maybe working on at a time.

Looking at actual through put the firewire is faster than usb. Firewire can maintain faster speeds longer than usb.

Get the largest drive you can afford. So something a long the lines of a 250GB, 7200rpm firewire drive.
