That is the generally accepted way to do it.

There are some programs that come with an installer and uninstaller, but usually programs are installed and uninstalled by drag and drop.

Note that many programs will have preference files, very small files that keep information about the settings etc of the program, in the Library folder. These files remain when you drag and drop into the trash. These are fine to leave, and take very little disk space.
