As far as 'Home Design' software packages go, the only I am aware of that is currently available for OS X is from Punch Software (don't remember the exact name).

If you are running Windows via Bootcamp or Virtual Machine there are several packages available.
Depending on your needs you might only want a simple sketch program, as designing an addition can mean different things to different people.

For example: some may only be concerned about placement of doors and windows, and whether the furniture may fit. Others will be generating a full materials list including lumber, wiring etc.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .
