Depends on the Macbook Pro..you can most definitely go to Snow Leopard. If it's a Macbook Pro after 2008 or so, a good chance (once you upgrade the RAM likely) you can run Mountain Lion..

Without the exact specs, hard to say what you can and cannot do..
