What I think that you're experiencing is called a kernel panic. Many times kernel panics are due to hardware issues...and many times the most common hardware issue is the ram.
Since you were given this Mac-Mini...you may not know much about its history. So the ram would be the first place I would investigate.
It probably has 2 sticks of ram in it currently...so you could remove 1 stick...and see if it is stable with that one stick. If it keeps doing the same thing...then just run the other stick by itself. If both sticks of ram (each run by itself) still cause the computer to crash...then maybe someone installed the wrong ram into the computer (it does happen).
This would require you to purchase some new/correct ram...install the new ram...and see if that solves the problem.
One other thing I should mention. The older Mac-Mini's can be a bit difficult to open up. So if you are not familiar with how to remove/install the ram in your Mac-Mini...check out the procedure at:
