If it's the 13" MacBook Pro 13.3" 2.4GHz (Model ID: 7,1 only) then according to them it should be able to take up to 16 GB.

By "off label" do you mean that this is more memory than Apple officially lists as the maximum? If so, then yes it is "off label". Their recommendations have been pretty accurate. I have 8 GB in my MacBook Pro that "officially" takes a maximum of 4GB. After several months I haven't had any issues. Their recommendation is probably accurate.

I suspect that what has happened is that in the last three years chips have become available that have the same specs as the machine was built for but have a higher capacity. If you are nervous about it give them a call. They'be been pretty good about answering questions in the past.
