If Sophos has been around for a while and the issue started recently, there's no indication that it's the culprit. The entry " NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100" in the log seems to point to something related to NVRAM. So a reset might clear that up.

I won't open up the can of worm that is anti-virus on OS X unless we really have to..
