The Roku provides the ability to purchase content from a lot more providers than having iTunes only.

Vudu is only one of those content providers and is the service which currently has the highest available resolution streaming video.

There is a "great" number of additional streaming sites available on the Roku than the ATV - link - but, if you want iTunes and want to easily stream from your Mac, then you still need the Apple TV.

For what you specifically asked to do - the ATV will do that.
