Look at it this way...if the 15" display was improved...then the 17" display would be improved as well. The reason folks like a 17" display in a MacBook Pro is because you can see more (larger resolution) than on a 15" display.

And although an external display is a great way to expand a 15" MacBook Pro's abilities...a built-in 17" display (especially when traveling for work, school, etc.) can't be beat!

If you're sitting in an airport terminal waiting for a flight, and the library, or visiting a client on a business trip...and like a larger display...that 17" display comes in handy.
