LaCie has horrible product support. If you were to take apart the drive, you may be able to access the data using a different enclosure, but it will void your warranty (sounds like you don't care at this point though).
Really, I don't understand how Lacie is still a functioning company as I've never seen positive reports about their products, on top of their support being pretty much useless.
