Your Macbook will for sure take 3GB. Only issue is you need one 2GB module and one 1GB. With Lion you might need the 3GB RAM. 2GB is the absolute Minimum for Lion.
I do agree with Chas that Apple did use Hynix at one point and I have seen it for sure in a 2008 Macbook.
I also agree that Crucial and Ram from OWC is the safest way to go. Go to OWC and look up your machine.
