Have you tried plugging it into a different HDMI port on your TV?
If it works OK then the TV's HDMI port could be at fault.
Specs: Late 2012 iMac 27", 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 Dual, 1TB hard drive, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.8.3
