If it's not unibody, than it was made on or before early 2008. The unibody MacBook Pros started in late 2008, which means the pre-unibody MBP ended in early 2008. You can't mix any of the chips, or screen. The only thing that can be used interchangeably is the hdd, if it works, as well as the ram, though it won't work at the same frequency. You could try to sell the old one in parts to try and get some money together to fix the newer one.
