Not quite right per Apple Support. If you rent a movie directly to an Apple TV, iPad, iPhone or iTouch, you cannot forward it to any other device. Only if you rent the movie to your computer can you play it on multiple devices. That's probably the reason it was not shown in the "purchase" section.
I guess the moral of that story is to always rent it to your computer first. Oh well, I learned something. Thanks for the help
