I am new at making DVD so I need help

I have several VHS that I want to convert to DVD and would like to know if this is the way to do it

1.- Convert the VHS into .mpg files and save in my HD
2.- Edit the .mpg file using the iMovies program
3.- Convert the edited .mpg file into a .mov file using the iMovies program
4.- Burn the mov file to a DVD using the iDVD maker

What I am not too sure of is how to convert the .mpg file into a .mov file using the iMovies program

Can anyone help?
