Personally, I like light text on a black background for a backlit display. Paper and E-Ink is a different story.
You simply can't please all of the people all of the time, so you have to aim for some of the people most of the time 
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
