Hi, Im new to mac and don't have a great understanding of computers in general.

when i was using windows i downloaded lots of films and music with rapidshare and hot file. Mostly .rar files then extracting them to .avi. I've infected my pc a few times doing this.

I dont intend to be doing this on my mac but would still like to watch the films etc i already have.

Can these .avi files hold viruses etc that can infect my mac if i move them from my pc to mac? or are viruses etc separate files?

I've looked though some posts on viruses/malware but have not found an answer to this.
