You do not tell us what if anything is installed at the moment, however the latest Apple OS is Tiger OS X.4 which is pretty old and will be slow on a G3, particularly with such little memory.
If you decide to purchase Tiger, make sure you get the full retail instal version, black discs. Do not buy the silver/grey discs which are extremely model specific.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
